The standard behind the work

April Amanda Nutakor is an immigration lawyer licensed in Ontario, serving clients across Canada and worldwide.

Born in Crimea, she spent her first 15 years there before moving to Ghana, where she lived for more than a decade. At the University of Ghana School of Law, she earned her Bachelor of Laws degree with First Class Honours, graduating as valedictorian with the highest recorded GPA at the university since 2012.

She then obtained a Master of Laws degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and went on to join a Montreal law firm with over 50 employees. There, she excelled as a lawyer and was promoted to Head of the Common Law Department. At every step, she has held herself to the highest standards and today she brings that same rigour to every immigration case she handles.

Having lived on three continents and through political upheaval, April understands what is at stake for her clients.

“I understand what it means to build a life in a new country. I have done it three times. That experience drives everything I do.”

FAQ

Your questions, answered

Clear answers about consultations, representation and the immigration process with Nutakor Law.

1. Why work with an immigration lawyer?

Immigration applications can involve complex eligibility requirements, documentation, deadlines and legal considerations. A lawyer can help you understand your options, identify potential issues and develop an approach based on your circumstances.

At Nutakor Law, we assist with your application from start to finish, or provide a case review and advice if you prefer to prepare and submit the application yourself.

2. What are your fees for immigration services?

Our fees depend on the nature and complexity of the matter and the services required. We provide a clear fee structure before you retain us.

Most of our immigration services are offered at a flat fee, so you know the legal fee for the agreed scope of work in advance. More complex matters may require a different fee arrangement depending on the circumstances.

Please note that our legal fees do not include government fees, such as IRCC processing fees, the right of permanent residence fee and biometrics or third party costs such as language tests, medical exams, police certificates and translations. We will inform you of the fees that apply to your application before you retain us.

Our initial consultation is $150 CAD plus tax if applicable. This consultation is 30 minutes. If you decide to retain us for additional services, the consultation fee will be credited toward your file and subsequent legal fees will be discussed with you before we proceed.

3. How long will it take for my immigration application to be processed?

Processing times vary depending on the type of application, the immigration program and the circumstances of your case. They can also change based on the volume of applications being processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

We help you understand the estimated processing time for your application and identify any factors that may affect your timeline. While processing times are outside our control, we will guide you through the process and keep you informed of important steps along the way.

4. How do I know which Canadian immigration pathway is right for me?

There is no single immigration pathway that is right for everyone. The appropriate option depends on factors such as your education, work experience, language ability, family circumstances, current status in Canada, employment and long term goals.

At Nutakor Law, we begin by understanding your circumstances and objectives before recommending an immigration strategy. A consultation can help you understand which options may be available to you and what requirements you would need to meet.
